Owner/Founder - Coach Thomas Speer
Thomas Speer, is in his third season as the goaltending coach for the NHL’s San Jose Sharks. He served as the goaltending coach for the 2023 U.S. Men’s National Team and 2025 U.S. Men’s National Team (Gold Medal winner). Prior to joining the Sharks, Speer worked three seasons (2019-22) for the NHL’s Calgary Flames as the team’s development goalie coach working with renowned rookie goalie Dustin Wolf.
Speer was USA Hockey’s national goaltending coach from 2017-19, including working with the netminders of both the U.S. Under-17 and Under-18 Teams at USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program from 2017-2019. He also served as the goaltending coach for the silver medal-winning U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team at the 2018 IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championship. Prior to joining USA Hockey, Speer worked as director of amateur goaltending for the Dallas Stars; as a goalie development coordinator for USA Hockey in Texas and Oklahoma; and as director of camp development and personnel for Elite Goalies in Allen, Texas. He also served as a goaltending coach for the Allen Americans of the ECHL for four seasons.
Speer knowing that goaltending camps were lacking on the West Coast founded Pacific Coast Goaltending in 2021. Through his networking he has brought in experienced coaches from around North America to help develop goalies of all ages.
Director of Hockey Operations - Lowell Barber
Lowell has been with PCG since 2022. He grew up playing goalie in Northern California. After spending 22 years in the US Army he is using his skills in leadership, development, and organization as the Director of Hockey Operations and one of our on ice coaches. Outside of PCG, Lowell is General Manager / Assistant Coach for St. Mary’s Prepatory High School (Stockton, CA) and Assistant Coach with the Delta Knights.

Chris Johansen & Christian Frey
Chris Johansen is entering his eighth season as the goaltending coach for the ECHL’s Allen Americans, the affiliate of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators. In his time with the Americans, he has helped develop numerous goaltenders who advanced to higher levels, including mentoring standout NHL rookie Leevi Meriläinen, who impressed during his NHL call-ups following a strong development season under Johansen’s guidance.
Prior to his time in the ECHL, Chris spent five seasons as a goaltending coach in the NAHL, culminating in a Robertson Cup Championship in 2023 with the Oklahoma Warriors. During his NAHL tenure, he played a pivotal role in the development of several goaltenders who went on to play NCAA Division I hockey.
In addition to his professional coaching responsibilities, Chris currently works with goalies at all levels—from youth and junior to professional—through private consulting and organizational development. He has been coaching private lessons and camps for over nine years and owned and operated C2 Goaltending for six years, building a strong reputation for developing goalies across all age groups and skill levels.
He also serves as the Director of Goaltending for the McKinney North Stars and runs the Dallas Stars Goalie Programs for the DSMHL, helping shape the next generation of goaltenders in the region.
A passionate educator of the position, Johansen is proud to be part of Pacific Coast Goaltending, helping bring top-tier coaching, camps, clinics, and private lessons to goaltenders of all ages. Through strong North American coaching networks, he continues to elevate the standard of goaltending instruction on the West Coast and beyond.
Christian Frey is entering his third season as the Director of Goaltending for the Texas Warriors, where he oversees the development of goaltenders across the organization. In addition to his role with the Warriors, he has been coaching private and group lessons, as well as running elite goaltending camps, for nearly eight years.
Frey co-owned C2 Goaltending for six years before merging with Pacific Coast Goaltending, where he continues to contribute to one of North America’s most recognized goalie development networks. His coaching career includes a season with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the USHL and three seasons with the Lone Star Brahmas in the NAHL, where he helped shape the careers of goaltenders who advanced to higher levels of junior and collegiate hockey.
Beyond his on-ice coaching, Frey is the founder and owner of Summit Sports Group, a hockey advising and player development company dedicated to guiding athletes and families through the complexities of junior, collegiate, and professional hockey.
As a player, Frey competed at the highest levels of junior, collegiate, and professional hockey. He played in the USHL before a standout NCAA Division I career at The Ohio State University, followed by professional stints in the AHL and ECHL. His diverse experiences as both a player and coach uniquely position him to mentor goaltenders and players at all stages of their development
